Title: President’s profile

Author: Newton T

Abstract:

I studied psychology at the University of Liverpool. At that time there was no A level in the subject and it was pure chance that I became interested in it.  I had just started my A levels, when I noticed that my sister was becoming increasingly thinner and at the same time was more and more interested in cooking elaborate meals and snacks. Concerned about her I popped to our local library and searched through the medical section. I came across a book called Anorexia Nervosa: A guide for sufferers and their family by Robert Palmer, a psychiatrist working at Leicester Teaching Hospital. I took the book home and showed it to my sister. Together we worked out a plan to help her gradually regain the weight she had lost. This sparked my interest in how people work and what happens when that goes wrong. I went back to the library to find out more.
