Title: Looked after children: legislation and consenting for dental treatment
Author: Brown N, Tkacz K, Reynolds C
Abstract:
This article aims to explore the legislation and complexities of consent for looked after children, within the health and social care system in the UK. This paper looks at who holds legal authority to give consent for a looked after child, care orders which may be in place for a looked after child, parental responsibility and the principles of consent. This paper recommends a child-centred approach to care, with the child’s wellbeing and safeguarding being at the forefront of the dental team’s mind.
