Abstract:

I’d like to start my report by acknowledging the honour bestowed on me by the Society in asking me to be the President of the British Society of Special Care Dentistry in its 50^th year. I am conscious that not only am I not a special care dentist, I am not even a dentist! Whether my appointment is visionary or mistaken is yet to be determined, but I will endeavour to honour the faith that the Society has placed in me.
